Dear Darren,

The holidays always gives me a chance to reflect and remember all the special times I’ve enjoyed with you as you have been growing up.  One thing that really stands out is the amount of time we spend together.  That will certainly be something that I will forever cherish.  It did make me think back to that first Letter that I wrote you and Matt,  “i know it hasn’t always been easy and i know that i haven’t always let you walk on your own because it was much easier to love you and carry you…even when i knew you should do it yourself.”  I can tell that it is time for me to step back and give you your space.  I have spent so much time and effort trying to protect you that I take away the chance for you to learn from mistakes, to grow from failure and to build confidence through success. For years, I’ve told you to be careful, but today. today I’m saying…  Take flying lessons. Start that business. Ask out the girl in class, even if you’re afraid of rejection.  This is your time. <3

Love you always,

mom xo

Katrina - You brought tears to my eyes this morning, Lisa. It’s so hard, as a mom, to say those words, but yes, you know when it’s time. <3 I see the time coming for me as well, slowly…but I'm getting glimpses. Oh, a mom's heart has to be strong to love and love and love, and to be able to let go.

You, my friend, are a wonderful mom, and I know your boys (and girls) are well-prepared for the next stage of their lives. They will do well. And they'll know they always have you there. <3ReplyCancel

Kristin Dokoza - I am truly so happy to be a part of this blog circle so that I can read your words to your boys. I’m always aware of how much I should protect, and when is the right time to let them learn from their mistakes. It’s so hard! Beautiful words, that I will remember.ReplyCancel

Tracy - Your photograph is absolutely mesmerizing. I keep coming back to it. His gaze is so intense, but still kind and connected to you. I’m really drawn into it. And your letter resonates so much with me. I am holding to my children so tightly, wanting to protect them so deeply. And I too find myself saying “be careful” so much. I can tell that you’ve laid such a strong and good foundation for them, one that will hold them long in life.ReplyCancel

Allison McSorley - Well, this one just makes me want to go have a good cry, Lisa. <3 You are such a wonderful and loving mother. Being a good parent is all about knowing when to protect and when to let go, isn't it? You've done an amazing job raising the boys and I can tell that they will always be close to you no matter where life takes them. Hugs to you, my friend. <3ReplyCancel

Emma Wood - Such wise and sweet words to your Son Lisa, I totally get this and have felt the same so many times. It’s so hard to let them go, when we want to hold on so tight – a Mamas love is such a fierce one no matter how old our children are. Hugs <3ReplyCancel

  • January 11, 2014 - 4:39 am

Kimberly - I always love reading your letters Lisa. I can only imagine how hard this transition may be, but he sure looks strong and prepared to face the world. My mom allowed me to learn from my mistakes but initially laid such a solid foundation that I always came back to those values she instilled. Mother’s are so important to the future of this world and you are doing a wonderful job!ReplyCancel

Faye - Oh Lisa…I love this letter and the image is breathtaking. I feel like that day is looming out there in the future for me too, when I will have to let my little ones fly. Gosh, I say “be careful” all the time. You are such a good mom to know when to step back and let them fly. I hope I can do that too, when the time comes.ReplyCancel

it is time once again for this months installment of ‘how i view’ with my lovely clickin moms friends. This months theme is how I view 2013.

It has been quite a year of celebration for our family.  In one year’s time, we have graduated two sons from high school and two daughters from college.  These celebrations have definitely been a highlight for me.

As I sit and think about these beautiful memories, I can’t help but to feel so proud of your accomplishments.  It brings such joy to your dad and I that you all are such caring, loving, and lovable people.  Your successes are not a surprise! It’s well deserved and will give you all a chance to spread your wings. You each are great!

Dear Matthew,

I want you to know how special I think you are. You are maybe the funniest person I know, and so many people agree with me. I love how you are so good at making people laugh, especially when you can tell that they need to laugh right then. Right along with that, you are a great scholar: a superb math and science student—you have presence, Matt, and that is a gift.

Your heart is so big. When I think of how much you love the people in your life, it blows me away. You love so hard and so huge and no one in your life can have any doubt how much you love them.

We love that you care so much about other people and animals.  You were a tremendous help to me a couple weeks ago when Lucy had her spinal cord injury.  You have a special way of making me feel that everything is going to be okay.  Thank you for your continued care for Lucy – I know how happy you make her when she can sit in your lap while you do your homework.

Right now, I am feeling so lucky to be your mom.

I Love you,

Mom xoxo

It is time once again for this months installment of ‘How I View’ with my lovely Clickin Moms friends.

Being thankful to me is welcoming each new day appreciating everything God has given you. Counting your blessings and being grateful for family, all the wonderful things in your life and even the struggles along the way.  As the sun rises each day, I take a moment to remember that every day is a day to be thankful and being thankful is a way of life.

Katrina - Lisa, I could not agree more. It’s so easy to get caught up in the things that go wrong or in the difficult challenges…but God has been so good. And it’s important to count and say thank you for all the blessings, big and small. Thankfulness as a way of life…perfect. Love your image as well…so beautiful!ReplyCancel
