It is time for our monthly letters to our sons blog circles with some amazing photographers who have come together to record our stories to our sons.

Dear Darren,

I had a letter ready to post for this month but I think I am going to save it for another time.  Today, you and your brother came home and surprised me with a very handsome haircut.  You’ve had long hair for so long, I know I was speechless!  I think you thought that was pretty funny.  😉  You and your brother even offered for me to take pictures and to be honest, just hanging out and talking, laughing and enjoying each others company was so special for me today.  One of the things I love about our time together is seeing how you and Matt make each other laugh, how you finish each others sentences and how you got that twin thing going on.  Thank you.

I thought I would share with my friends…time with Darren through my eyes. <3

It is time for our monthly letters to our sons blog circles with some amazing photographers who have come together to record our stories to our sons.

dear matt,

I love to walk past your room and see you reading.  This is something that never came easy to you, however, you never let the word dyslexic ever get in your way.  A fond memory for me is when you would come home from school with a reading assignment and we’d cuddle in dad’s big chair and read together – you would read a page and I would read a page (or two) together until we finished.  I loved reading together and sometimes miss that time.  So when I see you reading, I also see the journey that it took for you to be able to read alone and how much you make that apart of your  daily life – even when there are days I can’t see your face because it is buried in the pages. 😉  You have a lot of options with the advancement of technology and could have a new book instantly on your IPad but you will always wait for that much anticipated book to have a “real” book.  You always say that there is nothing like opening a new book – the crack of the spine, the smell, and watching the story unfold in your hands.

Your college courses are well underway and I am so glad that you still make time for you and your stories.  Never stop reading.

Love, Mom xoxo

Kristen - LOVE this image, Lisa! And I love your letter to him and the way you notice all the details about him. I do that too with my oldest…he reads some, then I read some. I’m sure it will always be a special memory 🙂ReplyCancel

Katrina - Love this, Lisa! Though I admit to indulging in ebooks sometimes, I agree with Matt that there is something so special about opening a new “real” book — because of that feeling, our bookshelves will always be full. I love the story your shared about his journey, and that reading is so much a part of his life now. This gorgeous image is the perfect complement to your words. <3ReplyCancel

Allison - Now that I’ve read your heartfelt words, Lisa, I see how much symbolism there is behind this image. It’s very powerful. I can only imagine how proud you are of him for overcoming the challenges associated with dyslexia. <3ReplyCancel

kara - this image goes perfectly with your lovely words, lisa. it’s even more powerful knowing about his reading journey. it’s so hard to see our children struggle, but so rewarding to see them overcome challenges. my husband is a voracious reader and he still prefers a “real” book too.ReplyCancel

Linda - reading is always such an amazing way to connect to our children! I love that your son has this bond with books – it truly opens the world to us and our imagination! <3ReplyCancel

Tracy - Lisa, I am always so moved by how you photograph your children, and this image of your daughter is no exception. I believe you have a unique ability to capture something unspoken in your images … perhaps your children’s personalities, perhaps your relationship with them … which makes these portraits that much more compelling. Just lovely (image and woman).ReplyCancel
